Mumbai Indians prove that chasing 130-150 totals are always tricky

Mumbai Indians, the defending champions, Indians bowed out of the Champions League T20 2012 with an embarrassing defeat at the hands of the Sydney Sixers. Having done well to restrict Sydney to 136, Mumbai were too slow to start with their run-chase and couldn’t make up for it as the overs went by. Such was the manner of the defeat that captain Harbhajan Singh didn’t hide his emotions at the post-match presentation and criticised the team. However, such an approach has been seen a number of times when teams are chasing those in-between totals in T20 cricket. Such instances do beg the question: How should a team approach such a run-chase?

Perhaps, the most relevant example of mismanaging such a run-chase is Sri Lanka’s pursuit during the ICC World T20 2012 final against the West Indies. Sri Lanka restricted an explosive West Indian batting order to only 137 – a score that seemed very gettable. At the mid-innings break, one would have backed Sri Lanka to get those runs – given the fact that they were playing at home with some vibrant support to back them. The early wicket of Tillakaratne Dilshan jolted them and the experienced firm of Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara simply didn’t get going. They went about it so cautiously that the asking rate kept increasing and wickets-fell in a heap after Sangakkara’s dismissal.

When a team has to chase totals within the range of 130-150, the first thought that may come to their mind is, “Come on, we can knock them off pretty easily? It is T20 cricket after all!” However, somewhere at the back of their minds, there is a voice of cautioning which says, “Hang on; we don’t want to lose this one. It could be a major embarrassment.”

The fall of an early wicket is what makes such a feeling stronger and may push the team into a shell. The other possibility is that the openers themselves get a bit too cautious. Thus, such scores are more a psychological battle when compared to some of the 170 or 180 plus totals we see.

On many an occasion, we see such low scores on surfaces that aid the bowlers. Such run-chases can be tricky, but the targets can be achieved with proper application. The wicket at Durban was helping the bowlers and we haven’t seen too many big scores there during the CLT20 2012. That too can be a psychological factor as the openers would be apprehensive early on and would want to see off the first few overs. However, that strategy can backfire – like it did for Mumbai.

Delhi Daredevils survived a few nervous moments against the Perth Scorchers and chased down 122 in the nick of time. The scoreboard may show otherwise, but one can say that they were in control for most parts of the innings. Virender Sehwag scripted an uncharacteristically sensible knock and that kept them in the hunt. He was positive and didn’t take his usual risks. A look at his score would reveal that he was measured yet up to the task – scoring 52 off 44 balls. In a way, that was an example of how one must approach such a run-chase.

While Sehwag may be a high-risk player, he still managed to score at a very good rate by curbing his natural instinct to a decent level. He didn’t get into a shell like some of the batsmen do and ensured the strike kept rotating and the occasional boundary was hit. It was only the regular fall of wickets that made the task difficult for Delhi and had one batsman held firm with him, they would have overhauled the challenge with a lot of deliveries to spare. Some of the batsmen can take a leaf out of his book and apply the said strategy.

Interestingly, the Auckland Aces have chased down such totals without any worry on three occasions at the CLT20 2012. A common feature in all those three victories was that their openers got them off to a flier – something that took the pressure off their middle order. Having set a base and by getting the run-rate under control, the other batsmen had no problems in getting into their stride. Batting sides can attempt such a practice if the conditions are good and the batsmen can play their strokes. In difficult conditions, it may be a gamble – which may or may not pay-off.

Ultimately, it seems to be a mind-game and it is all about handling the pressure and maintaining your cool. A team’s cricketing sense is tested in every way when faced with such challenges.

After Yash Chopra…What Next?

Yash Chopra’s passing has left a big emotional void in the hearts of cinemagoers and the Hindi film industry alike. But it also has the trade thinking about what the future of Yash Raj Films will be. Launched by Chopra in 1973 with his film Daag: A Poem of Love, the film company has grown into one of India’s best; it is also a business role model for many new studios built on the YRF model of corporatising Bollywood.

The 20-acre Yash Raj Studios as it stands today in Andheri, Mumbai, began operations in 2006. Today the entire Chopra enterprise is valued at approximately Rs 3,000 crore (latest figures are awaited). The late filmmaker’s sons Aditya and Uday are successfully operating the company – in fact, it is said that Chopra Sr as Chairman handed over complete charge to them around the time he turned 80. While Yash Raj Films, YRF Studios, YRF Music, Y-Films, YRF Television, YRF Home Entertainment and the distribution and marketing business are being handled by Vice-Chairman Aditya Chopra, YOMICS and the international division YRF Entertainment is being looked after by Uday Chopra in Los Angeles, USA.

But it remains to be seen if the media shy Adi and the not-so-successful actor Uday are able to walk in their illustrious father’s shoes – after all, Yash Chopra was not only a passionate filmmaker, but a pioneer in his field, a mentor to many artistes and also an important member of various industry bodies as a key decision-maker. He had a public presence that was as significant as his qualities as father, husband, friend and idol.

So, who do you think will be able to carry forward Yash Chopra’s legacy – Aditya or Uday Chopra?

The Understudy - Rajeev Ranjan

How does it feel being in love? Is it an out of the world feeling or is it something tangible. Is it something natural or is it something manmade? How do we recognize that one person in the crowd? Is there some source to identify that person? People say that love is more or less destiny, one’s good charm and it comes looking for you wherever you are. I was waiting for that one person to come and knock at my door. I wished I was alert enough to recognize its tone when it knocks.
In the pristine atmosphere that housed my colony I desperately missed one fellow companion. It’s really boring to stay all alone in this world however pristine that environment may be. I missed someone with whom I could share my thoughts, with whom I could laugh, someone who could make this huge compound a home rather than an amalgamation of concrete; someone who could cook for me and then waited to hear how does that taste; someone who could fight with me for occasional trips to city and someone who could spend my earnings on silly things that attract women. I think I was getting late for that someone. Is she listening?
New batch of recruits had arrived in the campus. After initial acquaintance to the organization one of them will join me as understudy. I wish this time it is a girl because for last four times I was getting only a male understudy. I was busy preparing some reports when someone feebly knocked at the door.
Yessssss! I said without looking up from files.
Hello sir! I am Avantika and I have been assigned to report you. The voice was sweet and the fragrance that swept over the entire room owing to her presence was unique and blissful. I was left mesmerized for a minute. She was beautiful to the core, I think the most beautiful person I had ever met or had ever entered the wide gates of this campus. The flawless radiant skin, nice flowing hairs, beautiful bright eyes and bow shaped lips. Everything appeared to be crafted in leisure. The delicacy with which she carried herself, her soft spoken voice and bright communicative eyes added immensely to her beauty. She woke me out of the hypnotism with two pleasant helloos.
I am your understudy for this project sir. She said taking seat in front of my table, maybe realizing that I may not offer her out of hypnotism. The understudy is supposed to be with you all the time like your shadow. To work on your behalf, prepare drafts, noting and every other thing that is part of your job. She became my constant companion and I became matter of envy for all who saw us together. I had already shed any ounce of ego that might come between a senior and a probabationer. We were seen together at all places whether it was project or no project.
More I came to know her more I started liking her and it was only increasing with each passing day. Her aura had a hypnotic effect on my nerves and they hardly cared to listen what I had to say to them. I was slowly and steadily falling in love with her.
Next two days were supposed to be off on account of week end. I casually mentioned her about taking her to the nearby Radha Krishna temple which was famous for its continuous chants for last few years. To my surprise she readily agreed to the idea even if it meant waking up early out of cozy warm bed on a holiday in the freezing winter season of Dehradun. That gave me a nice feeling, it meant she liked being with me, she cared for my company and also that fire was spread on both sides. Was it too early for me to make predictions? I don’t know but I was highly excited about the whole game plan.
My day started very early, somewhere about 5 O’ clock. I took bath without caring for the temperature; I in fact didn’t feel any cold that day. I was in some other trip and when you embark upon such journeys weather is hardly a concern to bother about. I was at her residence a little short of 6 O’clock. I wondered what she will think of me. Was I crossing the line somewhere? Was I embarrassing her by such stupidities? Probably I was. Before pressing the bell I again thought. Should I, shouldn’t I? I didn’t get an answer. I felt like a cheat who was trying to exploit the innocence and decency of a girl who was behaving sweetly with her senior.
I didn’t press the bell. Kept thinking for some time and then turned back. I was sure she was fast asleep in her warm bed and I was only making her uncomfortable by bothering her at this hour.
“You go late sir!”
I heard Avantika calling me from behind. The smile returned back immediately as I looked back to see her completely dressed and ready for the occasion. I realized she had taken care of offering her prayers as well. She chose to wear a white colored churidars with maroon borders. She cared to keep her hairs neatly tied in a pony though a few strands kept dangling on her fluffy cheeks giving a divine appearance to that beauty. The eyes twinkled with abundance of energy within them and spoke immensely of the excitement she had at the very idea of being with me or probably to visit temple. I couldn’t guess however.
Driving motorcycle to some 30 kms in that freezing cold of north won’t have been this exciting without her warmth that embraced me from behind. She was trying to cover her face behind my back to avoid the chilly winds and I was enjoying every bit of it. The temple had separate enclosures for ladies and gents. We sat differently but I continued to stare at her through the corner of my eye. She had her eyes closed in silent prayers and looked like an angel that had descended from heaven. Was she aware of me staring at her at that moment? I think she was. She was enjoying it as well for I could see a fine line of wrinkles appearing near her lips as if smiling at my behavior.
We stopped at one of the dhabas in between. By then the Sun had appeared and chill had considerable dampened. I didn’t like it though, now there was no reason for her to sit closely when we drive back to the campus. By far it was the best day in my life and I was enjoying it thoroughly.
“Have you seen the ranjeet sagar dam?”
She spoke out of blue and I wondered, why?
No. I said in reply, mysteriously looking into her eyes that were twinkling like a star.
I didn’t say anything further nor did she but as I could make out form her facial expressions she expected something else in reply and looked visibly disappointed. I kept wondering, why? As we headed back home she chose to sit considerably apart and didn’t reply to whatever I asked her. I stopped after some time and we both alighted to stand facing each other.
“Why are you angry, understudy?” I asked her in a slightly demanding tone.
She looked up and said softly. Ranjeet sagar dam is on the other side; she said pointing in the opposite direction. I smiled and so did she and the motorcycle turned to the other direction. She sat very closely to me this time. The speed was slow but heart was beating much faster. I could feel the rhythm of her warm breath and she was breathing very fast.
I wondered whether it was something like love between us or was she merely interested in sightseeing. I couldn’t say anything in reply. I had no answer to it. I think she also didn’t have this answer.
We spent the whole day near the dam. We were still not done with each other. I wanted more and more of her company, I wished the day never ends today, I wished we remain closer to each other like this forever and lost in this ambience of pure love. I wondered what was going on in her mind. I she single as I presumed her to be? It wasn’t likely though, a girl like her can’t remain single. Should I ask her? I kept weighing pros and cons but didn’t dare to ask her that direct question. We slowly descended down the dam to the bike. She didn’t say a word but her skin had a different glow today. She appeared to be contended with herself. The contours that appeared on her face were indicative of the internal peace she had. I didn’t want to break that. I had no courage to ask something stupid to someone so beautiful, so pious and so natural.
By the time we reached back to the campus it was well past 9 in the evening. She customarily called me in as I dropped her in front of her cabin. I had no courage to do that however. She became adamant and kept requesting till I finally said yes. She went inside to change and prepare some coffee while I busied myself looking closely at her room. The room was neatly decorated with her photos of different age. I liked the collage of photographs the most out of it. She had neatly showcased her growth to womanhood in that. In all the photographs she appeared to be speaking through them aptly using her expressive eyes. I was yet to see someone so beautifully maturing into womanhood.
She tapped me from behind with a cup of coffee in her hand and we both sat at the adjoining couch. She had opened her hairs by now and that added enormously to her glamour. Those flowing hair, the lustful eyes, enticing lips with a tint of red I don’t know how I was able to control myself so far. I wondered what went in her mind at that time. What was she up to? Was she challenging me to take the step? Was it an open invitation of sorts? Thankfully I didn’t do anything, her expressions changed soon and I could she an inquisitive question mark appearing on her forehead.
“Do you have a girlfriend?” she spoke all of a sudden but there was lot of concern in her voice as she said that.
I nodded in negative first and affirmative later.
What does that mean? She was curious to know.
I never had any but I am sure I have one now. I spoke with lot of hesitation but looking directly in her dark, bright beautiful eyes.
I could now see her face shrinking, the glow evaporating and smile fading away somewhere in the background. I was sure that she didn’t like my answer and eagerly awaited me finishing the coffee and moving away.
I got up and headed towards the exit, she followed in tow; head down and expressions sad.
Before opening the door I turned back to say something.
Won’t you like to know who that person is? I asked looking directly in her eyes.
No, she said disapprovingly.
But you know her.
Who, she said. An element of curiosity appeared on her face this time.
I took her hands and kissed them gently. She shrugged and pulled back but it was all half hearted.
I pulled her again.
Who? She said looking in my eyes and sort of pleading to say that it was her.
Who else? I said and hugged her. She almost melted in me and hugged me tightly. I could feel her warmth against my body and continued holding her.
She looked up. There was a smile on her face.
I love you understudy. I said and kissed her head.
I love you too; she said and closed her eyes.
I am no more your understudy, she said after sometime and I smiled back in return.
I was deeply, madly in love with a girl who had given a new Philip to my life which eagerly waited for someone like her for all these years.

An Interview With Adam Sachs, Co-founder & CEO of StepOut.com

What is your definition of an entrepreneur?
To me, an entrepreneur is somebody who exhibits the agency to have control over their own professional destiny.

How do you motivate yourself?
I'm motivated by where we are today and where we can get to tomorrow. It's extremely motivating to see that we have millions of users using our product and that we're hopefully changing some people's lives for the better. But even more motivating is knowing that we can continue to learn from our customers, continue to scale, and ultimately have an even bigger impact on India and hopefully the world.

Why did you choose the type of business you are presently in?
I always had an entrepreneurial, risk-taking mind. But I never imagined I'd be running a site that helps young adults in India meet each other. It's fate!

When did you first decide you wanted to work for yourself?
In my first job out of school, it didn't take long for me to realize that while I enjoyed the company and my coworkers, the work itself didn't feel meaningful to me. It was hard to really get a grasp on what impact my work was having outside of my little cubicle. That's when I knew I wanted to try to work for myself.

From the current records, we found that Step Out is a hit among its users, how do you find this?
I find it to be awesome! We try really hard to create a community where our users have fun new experiences and feel safe doing it.

If you had to choose a mentor, whom will you choose?
Mentorship is one of the cornerstones of the Startup world. I have a number of companies whom I mentor and I still very frequently get mentorship from my own personal mentors. There aren't many widely available curricula for starting a web company. Therefore, the best way to learn is from people who have already done it before.

Finally, do you have anything to share with our readers?
In addition to identifying and engaging great mentors, another contributor to success is persistance and dedication. The notion of an "overnight success" is over hyped. It just doesn't happen often and if you're starting a company, you should temper your expectations. It's most likely going to take a lot of time, trial and error, and tons of hard work. But if you keep at it, you'll give yourself a chance for success.

Politics & Priorities - Bijoy Joseph

Do we see a complete disregard for probity in public life . Are we too arrogant with authority and complacent in our attitude to be good  examples of austerity & simplicity . When the country is  marching forward in growth and prosperity ( going by the GDP ), let us not close our eyes on the citizen's rights to living in freedom  and with  dignity . The quality of life  of a country which is not measured on just economic prosperity but on the social and cultural  parameters should understand  that real  development is when disparities are leveled and the voice of the poor is not muzzled.  Do we have the right to  freedom of thought without the  fear of being victimised, equal rights to education & employment or in invoking the constitution against corruption . For all the effort taken by the Anti - corruption crusaders, it's indeed unfortunate that a septegenarian senior citizen , Anna Hazare has to take up the gauntlet  against such evils like money laundering. There's little meaning in prosperity when money does not ensure peace and security for the weaker sections.  How long  will you  be living in the security and comfort of a house  surrounded by poor and outlawed citizens on the streets. This is the case in many countries of Africa & the Third World. Is there real freedom ?

What is being done to speed up the pendency of cases in our courts of law. There are criminal  cases that have not been settled for years. Every Govt just provides lip service when it comes to dealing with issues like delayed justice or criminalization in politics. How do we clean up the system, is the moot question. Yes, there's more transparency today with media & technology taking big strides . But the law enforcement is still weak. We are today talking of FDI in Retail, but what is wrong with  our much maligned  Co operatives. ANAND is one big success we must not gloss over. Thanks to late Dr Kurien's unwavering faith in the feasibility of the  movement empowering millions.  AMUL has proved the model  can work , but there were attempts to dismantle the system. Is the clock ticking.  Grameen Bank of Bangladesh is a case in point , where the Govt has overruled the founding constitutional rights of the poor stakeholders  and lately taken over their  powers  ( Aug' 2012) .  Can we put a priority on governance and accountability .  First things first , when we're in a hurry  to fix something that may not be really broken .  Let us not whitewash the exterior . Politics can play foul and only push  things under the carpet .

For the last few years the global economic scenario has been dim with countries around the world going in for austerity measures. It was only too obvious that India needed to tighten its belt. There are implementation bottlenecks that have to be removed if our social agenda  have to see their desired results. Self  producing and Self reliance is not the same thing , if the produce does not reach the desired people. Our laudable goals like Garibi Hatao is far from over even though we've attained self sufficiency in staple  food. Foreign investment should not be mistaken for economic prosperity if it goes into sectors that only go for more automation & imports.  Our PSUs  and  Navarathnas  have not come to mean White Elephants if they can be turned around with proper management .   Commitment to quality comes from top , not bottom up. It's not about Toilets Vs Temples but if all our Temples, Churches and Mosques have usable toilets, that would do a lot of good especially for our fairer sex.  Do we need foreign money to build toilets in villages and see that they are   kept  clean. We boast of having Mobile phones & TVs, when 7 out of 10  girls drop  out of schools once they attain puberty because the schools don't provide separate toilets for girls. Free Market  mechanism will fix competitive salaries, not necessarily raise remunerations and jobs .The  recent trend in growth sectors of  IT, Biotech, Pharma,  is a downswing in recruitment and pay .  Apparently only private firms are in the reckoning even in social sectors  like Health and Education.  Look at the paradox , when the economy was on a  downside, our Indian Govt in 2010, thought it fit to hike the salaries, 3 times more for the honourable MPs (they gave themselves a hefty raise ).  By comparison their monthly pay check is 30  times more than the average pay in the country today ( going by the per capita Rs 5000/- a month ).  That much for our cost cutting at the helm . Do we  justify the need for taking time bound measures at curbing  our much bloated parallel economy.  Govts  in Countries like France for example has shown fortitude and commitment when the PM & ministers have taken a  30% cut in their salaries when  the Socialists assumed power early this year.  Probably we are too busy crunching numbers  that  such socialist ideals just stand in the way.

Apple Event Preview: iPad Minis And Retina MacBook Pros & Much More

Apple has an event planned for Tuesday, set for 10 AM Pacific in San Jose. It’s got something to do with the iPad mini, to be sure, but there’s tons of other stuff also rumored to be making an appearance. In fact, it’s beginning to look almost like an Apple fan’s hardware wish fulfillment fantasy, so let’s take stock of what’s supposedly coming and how likely we are to see it.

iPad mini

Here’s the skinny on the new, potentially skinnier iPad. The one consistent detail we’ve seen is that it’ll have a 7.85-inch screen, which, given its specificity, seems very likely to be true. There have also been plenty of images of supposed prototypes, mock-ups and dummy devices used by case manufacturers and others. Given all this info, we’re probably not going to be too surprised by the looks of what gets unveiled on stage next week – though what different color combinations (black or white, as with the iPhone and full-sized iPads) look like in production version could add some spice to the mix.
As for specs, the info is a little hazier. We’re probably going to get a tablet with a non-Retina diaplay, according to many sources, including a best-guess evaluation from frequently correct Apple blogger John Gruber. That won’t be necessarily all that disappointing; a 1024×768 display in a 7.85-inch screen adds up to a pixel density of 163ppi, better than the iPad 2′s 132ppi, though still a far cry from the new iPad’s 264ppi. But as Gruber notes, lightness and thinness should be Apple’s key selling points with an iPad mini, and Retina screen resolution is something that could run counter to both those goals.
We’ll likely see the A5 processor in the iPad mini, instead of the A6, according to early reports, with 512MB of RAM, though 1GB is also possible. There should be at least both Wi-Fi and cellular variants, though there’s some reason to believe we could also see a both a 3G and an LTE version sold separately. Internal storage capacities will likely start at 16GB and range up to 64GB, but there’s at least some suggestion we may even see 8GB versions at the low end, too.
Is the iPad mini real? At this point, it’s very nearly guaranteed. But variables like what capabilities it’ll have in terms of hardware specifics remain somewhat up in the air, which means Apple could still pull out some big surprises tomorrow around device specifics like pricing. It also might be called the iPad Air or something similar rather than the iPad mini, which would be a nice way of frustrating bloggers who’ve been putting “mini” in headlines for months now.

Refreshed iPad

Over the weekend a photo leaked that appears to show an iPad with a Lightning port instead of the 30-pin dock connector. That’s in line with what we’ve been hearing about a minor iPad refresh that essentially just brings the current iPad in line with Lightning, though it also could experience some other minor upgrades to its internal components, including processor and battery. There are good reasons to believe this is true, and strong reasons against it, too.
First, Apple updating mobile hardware mid-cycle is almost unheard of. The exception is when it added a CDMA version of the iPhone 4, but that was a special case designed to take advantage of the end of an exclusivity agreement with carrier AT&T. Rumors of an iPad HD previously popped up indicating a mid-cycle refresh for the iPad back in July, 2011, too, but that never came to pass – Apple waited a full year to introduce the new iPad with Retina display, sticking to its upgrade cycle. This year, it did introduce new customization options for the Retina MacBook Pro just a few weeks after its introduction, but that only barely qualifies for a mid-cycle spec update.
On the other hand, there’s a very good reason to get a Lightning-equipped iPad out there ahead of time: the full-sized iPad will be the only new device Apple is selling without the new connection standard if it launches the iPad mini with Lightning as expected. Making sure that all new, late model hardware that rolls off the line has Lightning will increase the time it’ll take for that to become the dominant standard, helping Apple wind down its dock connector production more quickly and benefiting supply chain costs in the long run.
One other report says that Apple will revise the iPad with improved support for global LTE, along the lines of the iPhone 5. Apple could reap significant benefits from making those changes to iPad, and since it’s not all that close to the device’s original release date, it also doesn’t run as much of a risk of angering customers, and really, so long as they keep these changes minimal and still push a real iPad update sometime early next year, I don’t think any buyers would be inconsolable at the outcome.

Retina MacBook Pro

Apple debuted the 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro at WWDC this year in June, and almost immediately countless friends and acquaintances chimed in saying they’d love the same thing in a 13-inch form factor. Such a device is reportedly on the way, according to a number of sources, including a recent leak of images of the notebook’s internals and casing. Earlier, there were rumors that the 13-inch rMBP and updated iMacs would arrive in September/October, according to KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, so seeing them now would hardly surprise.
Also, Apple typically introduces refreshed Macs around this time, with the likely intent of adding fuel to the consumer fire that is holiday shopping season. The 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro primed the engine and appealed to pros, but a 13-inch version will be much more palatable to the average shopper, especially after the rave reviews enjoyed by its larger sibling during the past half year.

Redesigned iMac and Mac mini

The iMac hasn’t been updated in over a year, which is unusual for Apple’s all-in-one. In fact, it’s been almost double the average time between updates since it’s gotten any love. The Mac mini is also looking pretty overdue for a change. Some rumors suggest we could see something as dramatic as a much slimmer case design for the iMac, which could indeed be possible since the iMac hasn’t undergone significant phsyical changes to its external case since 2007. Both machines are likely to get USB 3.0, however, as well as improved processors and generally boosted internal specifications.
We will not see a Retina display on the refreshed iMac, so don’t get your hopes up. It’s just unlikely that costs have gotten to where that’s a feasible thing, and benefits in terms of actual user needs are questionable.

iTunes 11 (or simply “New iTunes”)

Apple’s big redesign for iTunes was previewed on stage at the iPhone 5 event, but it hasn’t yet arrived, despite a promised release window of “October.” Now, it seems like Apple was intentionally waiting for this event to officially release it to the public. Apple’s got a stage, they’ve got some (seemingly feature complete) new software, the whole thing just makes sense. Plus, Apple likes to have at least something “available right now” to announce alongside upcoming products, which is what the iPad mini will presumably be.
That’s what’s likely on tap for tomorrow’s event, but tune back here at TechCrunch to find out how it all shakes out in the end.

Nokia has quietly launched the Asha 308 in India and it is now available from its online store for Rs 5,865. The Asha 308 is the latest addition in its full-touch Series 40 feature phones that has already become a huge success for the company with the launch of the Asha 305 and Asha 306 earlier. In the last quarter alone Nokia shipped 6.5 million units of these Asha phones.
On the specs front, the Asha 308 brings a 3-inch capacitive display, dual-SIM, a 2-megapixel camera, microSD card slot and pre-installed Facebook, Twitter and Whatsapp clients. Like the Asha 305, it does not have Wi-Fi connectivity, which is available in Asha 309 that is essentially an upgraded variant of the Asha 306. Nokia is also bundling free 40 EA games, like it did with the earlier two phones.
On the core specs front, the Asha 308 might seem similar to the Asha 305 but there are some key differences. The Asha 308 has double the internal memory (20MB), RAM (64MB) and ROM (128MB) than the Asha 305. It also has a capacitive display while the Asha 305 had a resistive display. Another new feature is the ability to record FM radio, which was not available on the Asha 305.
