Thommankuthu waterfall near Thodupuzha is an ideal abode for enjoying monsoon delight.Cascading down in seven steps, the beauty of the adjoining Ezhunilakuthu waterfall unfolds gradually with pools formed at each layer.

The abutting cascades at Thommankuthu, Ezhunilakuthu, Koovamalakuthu, Thekkanthonikuthu, Kadachiyaarkuthu and Palungalkuthu are all alluring. However, Thommankuthu is considered the most dangerous one of the group.

Nymphs are believed to have bathed in these natural splendors. Rare medicinal herbs envelop all the seven pools at Ezhunilakuthu and hence the belief that a dip in these pools cures one of any disease.

Thommankuthu is only one kilometer away from Ezhunilakuthu and the thrilling journey through the forest, is sure to be a memorable one. The sight of the seven-layered cascade from the broad rock beneath is stunning.

Adventurous tourists can go for a twelve kilometer km long trek up the Thommankuthu waterfall. However, it is advisable to avoid trekking during monsoon season. Tourist entry pass to the spot is issued only from 10am to 6pm. A plunge into the river that gushes through the smoothed rocks is refreshing.

Interested in visiting a tribal village within the forest? By procuring special permission from the Forest Department and guided by a forest guard you can stride up fourteen kilometers to have a feel of the tribal life.

Thodupuzha is the  nearest town where you can  find decent hotels and lodges apart from guest houses . Tourists can savor the rich taste of the traditional Kerala cuisine at these restaurants.

How to reach Thommankuthu:     

By rail: Ernakulam railway station is about fifty eight kilometers from Thodupuzha, whereas the Kottayam railway station is at a distance of 60 kilometers.

By road : Thommankuthu, which lies in the border of Karimannur, Vannappuram panchayats, is about eighteen kilometers from Thodupuzha. It is easier for those from the Ernakulam side to take the Moovattupuzha-Pothanikkad-Vannappuram route. Thommankkuthu is 35 kilometers away from Muvattupuzha.
