Lenovo is all set to launch its range of smartphones in India next month adding to its existing product portfolio of notebooks, PCs and tablets. The company is expected to host a “mega event” for the launch to enter the growing smartphone sector in the country, which is already crowded with tier one brands like Samsung, Nokia, HTC and Sony as well as homegrown brands like Micromax, Karbonn, Spice and Lava that have recently launched their own smartphone portfolios. Lenovo’s spokesperson in India Poornima Matthan confirmed the development to The Hindu Business Line.
Last month Lenovo’s CEO Yang Yuagqing had said in an interview his company would enter the smartphone space in India, Indonesia and the Philippines in the next couple of months. Lenovo has plans to launch as many as 40 smartphones this fiscal year and is open to acquiring other companies to grow quickly in this space. The Chinese consumer electronics giant already has a range of Android smartphones and was one of Intel’s first hardware partners to launch a smartphone running on the Medfield chipset.
