Samsung has officially announced the Galaxy S III mini that the company had talked up earlier in the week. Like the recently launched Galaxy Note II, it also ship with Android Jelly Bean. While, it shares its name with the company’s flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S III, the fact is the Galaxy S III mini is not a Galaxy S III variant with a smaller display. It actually is a rather middling smartphone and really cannot compete with the Galaxy S III in terms of specs.
The Galaxy S III mini packs in a 1GHz dual-core ST-Ericsson NovaThor processor, a 4-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 800×480 pixels, a 5-megapixel camera, NFC, VGA front-facing camera, a 1,500 mAh battery and 8/16GB of memory and 1GB of RAM. While the device runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, it also incorporates Samsung’s TouchWiz Nature UX.
The bottom line is, the only thing common between the original Galaxy S III and the Galaxy S III mini is the design language. Apart from this, it is a rather aspirational mid-range smartphone. Samsung is yet to announce pricing and release date.
