Its has been so long since I wanted to start with my passion of words, writing. But never couldn’t. Finally, somehow exams got over and I am here with my very first book review. Actually this was the idea which stroked me few days back and got stuck somewhere inside my unused mind.
About the Author : Gaurav Dashputra is currently completing his medical education from Dr. D.Y. Patil university in Navi Mumbai. He is originally from Nagpur where he finished his schooling, he now lives in Mumbai where he plans to settle down. But most of the odds are against that. He loves to swim and one the gold medalist in his school days.He is a huge foodie and loves to eat. He is a huge movie buff and die hard fan of SRK. And it rained is his debut novel. He is gifted with a very good sense of humor.
About the Book: There are two reasons why I chose to pick up this book. 1.) very catchy title - And Then It Rained... 2.) I was with in contact with author since before the release and he is the guy who keeps me inspiring nd motivating for writing.
Now lets come to story, it is all about the protagonist Aman Sarin, his relationships with Aarti, Riya, Aisha and preety and how he took all wrong decisions in life and how he made it hard for himself. Aman used to live in Nagpur, his hometown. After when school got over, Aarti broke up with him saying very beautiful line, which is backbone of this book.
"It's better to let go of someone who loves you....than keeping him in....love with you when you know you cannot be with him forever..."
Then he became RJ at radio station to recover himself from stroke of breakup. He was gifted with a very good sense of humor and all his friends and teachers loved him. No one could put himself in his shoe. He had all the qualities what girls required for their boy friend and boys see in their best friend. After then he moved to Mumbai, his dream city for pursuing his medical. There he found friends like Krish, Madhur and Aisha. The same day he was going to Mumbai, he came to know about Aarti’s death. Which made him more depressed. Then he started loving to Riya, his friend back in Nagpur which gave him another chance to live and feel what is love all about.
But he got addicted to drinking and smoking which made him to loose everything. Friends. Love of his life. Everything. The guy who was everyone’s favorite in school and collage, what made him being hated by eveyone?
Is it the end of story? Is what gonna happen in very next moment predictable? Life is not always a fairytale. To know what happens next, go and grab the novel.
Now review time: Starting of story is very slow and boring too. But as I keep going through out the book, I start enjoying each and every page of it. Some incident in book were not described well in book as per my view. When Aman came to know about Aarti’s death, he was going to Mumbai. And as he reached there he started enjoying collage life and start searching for girls. This disappointed me most. How can someone can do this on the day itself when he lost his love. Date with Riya was the best part of book. That date is still in my head. And I am gonna to do same. Sense of humor of author can be seen clearly through out the book. His trip to Goa, with his friend was very humorous. And many other incidents made me laugh out loud. :D Last few pages make me cry too. Emotions are well described in book. Plus the way in which Nagpur and Mumbai are described were fucking awesome. This is the best part of book. Everything about both the cities was perfectly described. And rains had a special connection with Aman's life. It had rained on every special occasion. Rain has always welcomed him. Book connect well with readers because it is not like any other collage love story.
For the very first time author its hard to keep command on language and words. But Gaurav did this successfully. He is very good with English and his writing style. And there is no grammatical mistake in book. But there are some printing mistakes in book. Even on back cover of book. I personally didn’t like cover page of book too.
I will rate this book 3.25 out of 5. This is worth reading once and some parts of it can be read twice. You are going to enjoy it.. so Go and Get your copy. :)
